"DP" and Me

DP and I became a "grandfamily" about three years ago. We are learning all about readjustment: me as a parent--again, him as part of a "new" family. Each day we find our little blessing in the storm.

On this day, brother taught brother

Today was such a good day. Time spent with family playing Uno, chess, watching television, and Virginia (DP's mother) cooked dinner.

When we sat down to dinner, I couldn't help but look around the table and remark  how pleased it was having them here, laughing and sharing family times. Afterward, I did kitchen duty while the others watched a DVD DP selected. He adores his big brother and clearly the feeling is mutual. It is particularly good seeing the two of them horsing around, although I bite my lip when they get close to my glass end table. The living room is somewhat "intimate" so there isn't a lot of room for horseplay.

In his own way, Dennis is also helping to raise DP. By sharing some of his youthful antics and their consequences, DP has a first-hand learning experience from someone he looks up to.
